| 1. Executive Coaching One of the trends in the delivery of training and development within companies has been the move towards a more visible return on investment. Companies are less willing to release groups of managers for training programmes, either short term or long term, where the content is not seen to meet specific business needs of those managers. Companies are becoming more value aware, and need to see how the cost of training, particularly outsourced, can be shown to have direct benefits on performance. One way in which Strategic Applications has addressed this is to promote the individual or Executive coaching model. This has a number of clearly defined stages: First, the specific needs can be identified through, for example, the company performance review process, 360° Feedback, or our own diagnostic activity. Second, the manager meets with one of our highly experienced performance coaches to review their needs and, importantly, to decide if coaching is a suitable development method for them and if they believe they can work with their nominated coach. If they decide that all is well, then a programme is agreed, according to the funding available and the specific changes required. The manager and their coach will work on these identified changes, using recognised and well-tried coaching methods. When the specific changes have taken place, the programme comes to an end; it is not expected to continue indefinitely, but to focus on specific, measurable changes. We can then, if required, set about measuring the change through an evaluation process, agreed with the manager and their company. The main benefit of the coaching model is that it allows for a budgeted response to a particular problem, and a way of measuring and controlling progress and expenditure.
